Последняя надежда
Clayton Beaver outside his home on the Waianae Coast of Oahu, Hawaii, just before heading to Fort Jackson, S.C. After nine weeks of basic training and then some additional instruction, he'll be assigned to a post as Pfc. Clayton Beaver. Soon after, there's a good chance he'll end up in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Clayton and his wife, Teresa, on a beach near their home. Beaver envisions unique cultural experiences for the entire family and better schools for his 14-year-old son, Kalani. "I want him to dream about doing something big," Beaver says. "It's hard to dream here; people are trapped. The Army is the only way for me to do it."
Kalani, Teresa and Clayton Beaver pray before a meal with friends. Clayton's imminent Army career "will mean a chance for a new start for us somewhere," Teresa says. "We didn't need to do the Army; we could support ourselves somehow doing something here. But we'd always be struggling. That's a hard way to live."
